Dr. R. Anjaneyulu, a senior obstetrician in India, wrote a book extolling the mother. In the book, Anjaneyulu clearly presents the scientific and technical aspects of obstetrics and gynecology as well as his philosophy on the social, moral, and ethical aspects of human reproduction. Anjaneyulu's essays on sex determination, sex education, abortion, family planning, normal and abnormal menstruation, cervical cancer, and menopause are so succinct and informative that the book will be useful for both people in the medical community and the lay public. Chapters of his book are described, followed by sections on the onset of labor, breast feeding, cancer, and the increase in the incidence of caesarian section and hysterectomies. In some parts of India, it is rare to meet a women over age 30 years with her uterus still in place.
