Prenatal diagnosis in the first trimester--beyond the first 100 cases

The authors performed till the 30th of April 1986 121 diagnostic chorionic biopsies in the 9.sbd.11th weeks of pregnancy. Their method based on transcervical aspiration with a modified Portex-catheter and on direct chromosome preparation resulted in successful diagnosis in 96% of the cases. 20 pregnancies have been terminated, from the 101 intended to be continued there have been 63 term and 2 premature deliveries and 5 spontaneous abortions. Based on leterature data and their experience they deal with indications and hazards on this method which revolutionaises the prenatal diagnostics, also analysing their pregnancy losses. To find the real place of chorionic biopsy in the practice authors think, that objective information should be given about it to the medical public opinion.
