A brief overview addressing productivity management in the provision of dietetic services presents a model incorporating 6 sequential personal and professional productivity planning steps as guidelines to establish a system for documenting productivity. The 6 steps are: identify tasks/duties and goods/services produced in accordance with a job specification; identify the resources allocated for each task/duty; develop productivity ratios (several examples given), and collect data; evaluate the ratios and analyze and compare the results relative to the desired task/duty goals; implement a plan of action for improvement of productivity values; and continue the productivity management process (covering the cycle: measurement, evaluation, action, improvement). It is concluded that productivity management is an essential major step in analyzing and documenting professional dietetic tasks.(wz)
