Values for triglyceride, cholesterol and protein, all carried by very low-density lipoprotein, were from 14.3 to 113, 2.3 to 23.8, and 13.6 to 54.1 mg per 100 ml, respectively, in 17 normal subjects. A diet with protein 20 and carbohydrate 80% given to 4 normal and 7 hyperlipidaemic subjects gave 1.5- to 10-fold increases in triglyceride carried by very low-density lipoprotein 1.2- to 5.7-fold increases in cholesterol, and 0.9- to 3.4-fold increases in protein.
