The 8-year-long work of 15 Genetic Health Services and 4 Prenatal Genetic Centers functioning within the national network for Family- and Women's Welfare is analysed. The frequentation of the Health Services became 1,5-2 times higher during the period studied and though the number of prenatally diagnosed cases grew yearly it is necessary to make obligatory a uniform report to the Genetic Health Services so as to be able to control the efficiency of diagnostic activity more exactly. It is emphasized that in case of suspected teratogenic impairments or hereditary diseases the permission for abortion must be preceded by the expert opinion of the Genetic Health Service. The evaluation of serum alphafetoprotein (Se-AFP) examinations requires the exact knowledge of gestation time. The attention is drawn of every doctor and district nurse dealing with the care of pregnant women to the necessity of urging on every pregnant woman over the age of 40 to see the Genetic Health Service before the 11th week of gestation. Satisfactorily evaluable results can be expected only in this case from the work of the Health Services.
