Cholecystectomies and end-to-end choledocho-caval anastomoses were successfully performed on 15 dogs. In dogs dying within 10 days there was a rapid rise in serum bilirubin and blood urea nitrogen; others survived up to 29 days. Light microscopy revealed yellowish brown granules in the glomerular mesangial region and in Bowman's space. Dense globules and rarefaction of the basement membrane were seen under the electron microscope. The deposit in the mesangial region was either phagocytosed or spread along the mesangial matrix to the arteriolar walls.
