Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) comprises a clinical syndrome including microangiopathic hemolytic anaemia and systemic symptoms, chiefly neurological and renal ones, secondary to hyaline platelet thrombi without any evidence of disseminated intravascular coagulation. A case of TTP in a woman with systemic lupus erythematosus is presented, as well as some comments on the pathophysiological basis for the association of both conditions.
