Adenoviral infection in newborns more often is caused by adenoviruses type 1, 2, and 3. A clinical chart of the disease in the majority of newborns is characterized by the presence of catarrhal syndrome with pronounced exudative components. The adenoviral infection proceeds at a regular temperature in premature children, the decrease of muscle tone and hyporeflexia is followed by repeated attacks of asphyxia; in normal children the temperature is more often subfebrile when there is a moderate decrease in the muscular tone and preservation of the physiological reflexes. Adenoviral infection in newborns is characterized by the frequent development of pneumonia, the severity and clinical manifestation which were caused by the characteristics of age and individual reactivity of the child. During adenoviral infection in newborns, there was a prolonged (3 to 4 weeks) secretion of the infected material and a slow increase in humoral antibody levels, due to the irregularity of specific and nonspecific mechanisms of immunity at this age.
