Swedish Red-and-White cows, with milk fever at their previous calving, were given 100 g CaCl2 in gel perorally 24 hours and 1-2 hours just before and 10-14 hours after calving. The reduction in incidence of attacks was not significant. The dosage of CaCl2 was then increased to 150 g, given on the same occasions as before, with an additional dose about 24 hours after calving. The frequency of milk fever was significantly reduced from 47% in the control group to 23% in the experimental group.
