Anti-calmodulin autoantibody in the sera of patients with malignancies of the urogenital tract: a new antibody against a cytoskeleton-related protein

An enzyme-linked immunsorbent assay has been developed for detection of autoantibody against calmodulin, a cytoskeleton-related protein (anti-CaM). The sera from 69 patients with renal cell carcinoma had significantly higher levels of anti-CaM when compared with 37 controls (analysed by discrimination analysis; renal cell carcinoma, p < 0.01, prostatic cancer, p < 0.01). Anti-CaM was also detected in the patients with benign prostatic hypertrophy (p < 0.01).
