Hyperimmune bovine colostrum inefficacious as multiple sclerosis therapy in double-blind study

A double-blind, placebo-controlled study investigated the use of hyperimmune bovine colostrum (HBC) as a therapy for 12 multiple sclerosis (MS) patients using a protocol designed to suppress placebo responses. It is concluded that, while a retrogression in clinical status was observed in 3 MS patients 6 weeks after they discontinued HBC and an improved function was observed in 2 MS patients who resumed HBC, MS patients with characteristics similar to those studied should be cautioned to guard against unfounded optimism because several plausible explanations for these findings could be identified.(wz)
