518 children suffering from primary enuresis nocturna were reviewed. A detailed urologic history was the most valuable data in choosing the right treatment protocol. Excretory urography, urodynamic studies and endoscopy were rarely employed. The incidence of nocturnal enuresis was not influenced either by social standards or by marital problems among parents. If both parents gave a history of enuresis nocturna, a higher percentage of children in the family were found to be enuretic, whereas when only one parent had a history of enuresis, the associated occurrence was lower. If neither of the parents was enuretic, a relatively short period of some six weeks was needed for successful treatment. Combined treatment by conditioning and medication gave significant permanent cure rates. A significant correlation between the mode of treatment and its success rate was found. Employing the conditioning technique, the positive results exceeded expectations. As soon as the organic urologic problems were dealt with, night wetting disappeared. Children who did not improve with either atropin or imipramine treatment did not benefit from the combination of the two drugs.
