A polygraphic study of the somatic (EMG) , autonomic (finger plethysmogram, galvanic skin reaction, respiration, pulse) and EEG (acoustic-evoked potential and EEG-blocking reaction) components of the orienting response elicited by an auditory stimulus was performed in 33 enuretics and in 72 matched subjects in 2 control groups. The study showed a significantly more intense orienting response in enuretics than in normal subjects of control group I. The orienting response intensity was significantly lower than in patients with symptomatic epilepsy of control group II. The severity of these responsiveness disturbances in enuretics depended on the features of spontaneous EEG activity, the frequency of nocturnal involuntary micturitions and their etiology, as well as on the subjects' age at nocturnal episode onset.
