Symptomatic aortic aneurysms. A difficult diagnosis?

The incidence of aortic aneurysms is increasing. The diagnosis is often difficult to obtain and it requires clinical and diagnostic alertness. This article describes 15 acutely ill patients who were admitted to this medical department from February 1984 to October 1986. All patients had a symptomatic aortic aneurysm on admission, but they were all referred to the hospital under differential tentative diagnoses. This article points to the diagnostic problems in patients with symptomatic aortic aneurysms and, at the same time, underlines the great usefulness of ultrasonography as a diagnostic aid.
