Blood samples from 160 apparently healthy individuals belonging to 10 different tribal populations of Rajasthan viz., Bhils, Minas, Garasias, Damors, Gametis, Dakars, Valmikis, Khatods, Todas and Mewasis were studied for Hpa I restriction endonuclease analysis of DNA on 3' side of the .beta.-globin gene. The normal .beta.-gene (.beta.A) in various tribal population of Rajasthan was found to reside on a 7.6-kb DNA fragment when analyzed by digestion with restriction endonuclease Hpa I and Southern blotting.
