The paper describes Hawaii's two national parks, Hawaii Volcanoes on the Island of Hawaii and Haleakata on the Island of Maui, in terms of (1) their outstanding ecological features; and (2) the relationship of perceptions, attitudes, and values to national park management problems; (3) the strategies and institutional arrangements used in the establishment, growth, and management of the parks; and (4) a brief discussion on the role of technology in shaping park usage and management.
