Examination of 31 suckler cows aged 4 years or over on two farms in east Scotland showed that the central incisors were lost from the age of 5 years. Periodontitis preceded loss, and severe gingivitis and gum recession were seen around many incisors. The condition may be widespread but the distribution irregular.
