A study was undertaken to evaluate the feeding practices existing in slums of Bangalore. A total of 1055 families under Urban ICDS area were interviewed by personal visits during Aug-Sept, 1983. The prevailing traditions and customs influenced the feeding practices in the areas. Leaving the child under care of older sibling or old women of the house, no proper knowledge about feeding practices, over-dilution of milk, use of unclean utensils need correction by health education.
