Heifers were subjected to courses of vibriosis vaccination in various forms, natural infection, or both. Their immunity to the disease was subsequently challenged by natural exposure to vibriosis-infected bulls at intervals up to 4 years later. Both vaccinal and convalescent immunity to vibriosis decreased with the passage of time. Continued high reproductive performance in infected herds thus required annual vaccination of all cows, including those previously infected.
