The article evaluates, for the case of Peru, the reaction of the agricultural sector to a particular economic policy. The evaluation is based on trends in capital available per worker and value added by the productivity of each worker. The results show that government agricultural policy, especially on prices and credit, have not only prevented modern farms from accumulating capital but have also seriously reduced labour productivity.
