Low dose apomorphine (50 .mu.g/kg, ip)-induced hypomotility was tested in two groups of male Wistar rats following true electroconvulsive shocks (ECS) and sham ECS respectively. The rats treated with ECS showed a lowered sensitivity to apomorphine indicating a down regulation of dopamine autoreceptor sensitivity. This effect persisted significantly till one week after the last ECS and was lost by the end of two weeks.
