The potential for persistency and recycling of B. sphaericus lot BSP 1 (formulation supplied by Solvey et Cie, Belgium) was evaluated in the laboratory at room temperature (24-30 degrees C) against C. quinquefasciatus larvae in septic tank water. When the larval cadavers were retained following a single treatment, the bacteria persisted for >113 days. The cadavers were found to provide good media for maintenance and growth of B. sphaericus. Without them, test water gave rise to lower mortalities on all test occasions, and to zero mortality at >43 days post-treatment.
