A case of constrictive pericarditis associated with coronary artery disease

A case of constrictive pericarditis associated with coronary artery disease (CAD) was presented. Patient was a 65-year-old woman who has been suffering from dyspnea on exertion and edema of the legs but had no history of angina. Constrictive pericarditis was diagnosed by several diagnostic procedures and selective coronary angiography demonstrated 99% stenosis of left anterior descending artery (LAD). Both lesions were indicated to surgery. At operation both ventricles were encased with thickened pericardium and densely calcified pericardium was found to adhere to proximal portion of LAD where stenosis was recognized by angiography. Complete dissection of pericardium with the aid of cardiopulmonary bypass and single A-C bypass to LAD were performed concomitantly. Post operative recovery was satisfactory. Based on the operative findings, constrictive pericarditis and CAD seemed to be related in etiology.
