Following the I.V. administration of 0.15 mg/kg of midazolam the effect on the left ventricular function of the new benzodiazepine compound was studied with echocardiography. Negative inotropic effect was not observed, the left atrial, left ventricular systolic and diastolic diameter and volume, linear and globular ejection fraction did not change as compared to the control. The examination of the authors confirm the earlier observation according to which the circulatory response elicited by midazolam.sbd.decrease of blood pressure, increase of pulse rate.sbd.are results exclusively of vasodilatation and in contrast to other hypnotics this drug does not cause myocardial depression, left ventricular function disorder.
