The quantity of plasma fibronectin was detected by immunodiffusion method and the changes of its concentration in circulation were observed in patients with acute leukemia. All of the patients were in-patients in the Division of Hematology from June, 1985 to May, 1986. The mean value of plasma fibronectin (M .+-. SD) was 292.48 .+-. 43.11 .mu.g/ml in forty healthy persons. Fibronectin levels were remarkably lower in leukemia patients with hemorrhage, infection and before chemotherapy than in normal control group (P < 0.01). The concentration of plasma fibronectin returned to normal level once complete remission had been achieved. No significant effect of chemotherapy on plasma fibronectin levels was observed. In 8 patients with acute non-lymphocytic leukemia complicated by fever and infection, four hours after the infusion of 100 ml of cryoprecipitate, the fibronectin concentration reached to its peak (289.62 .mu.g/ml) which was approaching normal. The half-life of infused fibronectin was 24.7 hours in the blood circulation. Thus transfusion of cryoprecipitate once a day would keep the fibronectin concentration of the patients within normal range.
