This is a study of new cancer cases registered in the only Cancer Hospital of Eastern U.P. and Gorakhpur Medical College from 1982 to 1984. One of the striking features since the cancer Hospital came into existence in 1982, is the progressive increase in the number of cancer cases seen yearwise. The number of cancer cases in females was observed to be more than that in males. This was due to the preponderance of cancers of female genital organs. The highest frequency was observed for cervical cancers in females and lower alveolus involving mandible in males. Lymphomas have a relatively high frequency in males followed by cancer of tests, leukaemia, tongue, and cancers of cheek. Pituitary cancers were found only in females. Cancers of cheek, palate and maxilla were seen only in males.
