A serological survey of leptospiral infection in horses in the Republic of Ireland

Tests using live antigens representing nine serogroups were carried out in serum samples from 530 horses submitted over a 2-year period for pregnancy diagnosis, export certification or diagnostic purposes. Positive titres to bratislava, copenhageni and pyrogenes predominated (21.3% positive); the percentages positive to ballum, hardjo and canicola were 15.7, 11.9 and 10.8, respectively. Titres to antigens from more than one serogroup were common, with only 93 (17.5%) of the samples giving single reactions.
