We performed a retrospective epidemiological study of endogenous uveitis. In a total number of 24.984 outpatients who visited out clinic between 1981 and 1983, 576 cases (2.9%) were endogenous uveitis. The endogenous uveitis cases consisted of Behcet's Disease (13.7% in uveitis cases), central exucative chorioretinopathy (11.8%), sarcoidosis (6.8%), Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada Disease (5.6%), Posner-Schossmann syndrome (4.7%). Although 296 instances (51.4%) among the endogenous uveitis failed to be diagnosed definitely, there were 74 cases with presumed diagnosis in this etiology-unknown group. The frequency of Behcet disease in the present study showed apparent decrease compared with the value of our previous report (23.2%), but the proportion of posterior type increased noteworthy. The frequency of Voget-Koyanagi-Harada disease also declined. And it was noticeable that the occurrence rate of this disease was highest in forties and fifties of age, although the highest occurrence has been documented to be twenties and thirties in many previous reports. The frequency of sarcoidosis was similar to that of last report. The frequency of toxoplasmosis and tuberculosis were much less than that of our previous report. It might due to the improvement of the hygienic condition as well as some changes in the diagnostic criteria between this series and the former one. The anterior type uveitis of the etiology-unknown group was most frequent in fifties of age. And it was liable to be occurred unilaterally in the cases of under 20 years of age.
