A case of giant cystic pulmonary hamartoma

Giant cystic pulmonary hamartoma is a very rare tumor. In the world literature, only five cases were reported, and no case in Japan. We believe this is the first report in Japan. A 40-year-old female was admitted to the hospital suffering with cough, sputum and dyspnea on exertion. Chest roentgenogram revealed a giant cystic tumor in the middle and the lower part of the left lung field. An operation was performed and the giant cystic tumor was resected from the peripheral part of the lingular section of the lung. Pathologically the tumor was composed of fibroblasts, lymphogenic tissue, and bronchial epithelium. From the pathological findings, it was diagnosed as a giant cystic pulmonary hamartoma.
