In the period from 1981 to 1985 irritatively acting contaminating factors were measured in various pig breeding plants (total dust, ammonia, hydrogen sulphide, formaldehyde). Normally, the admissible threshold values were not exceeded. This statement contradicts the frequent occurrence of bronchitis and disturbances of the respiratory functions, respectively. Thus, it seems to be necessary to continue the work on bronchitis etiology and to intensify the analysis of the composition of the sty air.
