Mexican hairless dogs are useful in our dermatology research program because of their hairless integument and natural occurrence of comedones (blackheads) and cysts. Since these animals are not commercially available, both a maintenance and breeding program have been instituted to ensure an adequate supply of healthy animals. Their special requirements, in terms of diet, caging, room temperature, and relative humidity were described. Commonly accepted programs of immunization and endoparasite control used for haired dogs are applicable. Successful breedings were achieved only with hand matings. Delivery and survival rate data for 5 successful pregnancies were presented.
