Surgical correction of monorchism in the dog has long been considered by veterinary clinicians to be an unethical procedure because the condition has been labeled heritable. Yet during 15 years of studying the literature I have never seen a report of controlled research which proves conclusively that either monorchism or cryptorchidism is in fact an inherited defect.
