The emergence and spread of chloroquine, amodiaquine, Fansidar , pyrimethamine, proguanil, quinine and mefloquine and multiple drug resistance are discussed with particular reference to Africa. The 2nd part of the article considers the factors responsible for the emergence and spread of drug resistance.
