It is shown that an increasing number of blood transfusions to patients with major and mediterranean forms of .beta.-thalassemia results in the rising of the serum iron level, transferrin saturation coefficient, serum ferritin, circulating immune complexes and antileucocytic antibodies, attended by the lowering of T-RFL. The in vitro inhibition test has mainfested that circulating immune complexes, lymphocytotoxic antibodies and serum ferritin are capable of inhibiting T-rosette formation. On the basis of the results obtained the authors recommend intensified chelatotherapy, as well as immunocorrecting therapy and plasmapheresis as additional measures in the management of thalassemia patients.
