Anterior chamber implants and postoperative astigmatism

In a previous review of 127 consecutive posterior chamber intraocular lens implants we found that the postoperative refractive astigmatism was primarily due to corneal astigmatism. In the present work we studied 54 consecutive secondary anterior chamber implants. Statistical comparison of the subjective refractive data to the objective keratometric data in each of these cases shows a very strong correlation, indicating that it is the cornea, not the IOL, that is responsible for the postoperative astigmatism experienced by the patients.
