Immunological examination was carried out in 24 patients (9 females an 15 males) aged 20-70 suffering from chronic recurring nonspecific ulcerous colitis. Peripheral blood phagocytic activity of monocytes and neutrophilic granulocytes, monocyte lysosomal activity, and metabolic activity of monocytes and granulocytes was determined. It has been established that functional activity of these cells may grow synchronously in exacerbation of the process. Mono- and polynuclear cells remained stimulated when the patient's clinical condition improved and intestinal mucosa normalized. This may be an indirect evidence of the continuing pathological process.
