Spectral sensitivities in highly myopic eyes

The spectral sensitivities were measured by the G. Wald's selected adaptation method in high myopic eyes (over -6.25D). The high myopia was divided into three groups; (1) tigroid, (2) diffuse chorio-retinal atrophy, and (3) posterior staphyloma. The sensitivities were measured in each group, and compared with the normal control eyes (-1.25 .apprx. +0.50D). The peak sensitivity level in each group was studied with relation to the refractive degree and the axial length. In the early stage of high myopia-tigroid group, the peak of the green- and red-sensitivities was almost the same level as that of the control eyes, but the peak level of the blue sensitivity was reduced. These tendencies were found in almost all high myopic eyes. The reduction in the blue cone sensitivity was not related to the refraction, the axial length and the stage of high myopia.
