Tumor extension was asessed by means of ultrasonography, CT scan and arteriography on 80 patients with renal tumor. The different parameters of perirenal extension, venous invasion and ganglion involvement were analyzed by means of the three procedures: CT scan accuracy for each of these parameters was 84.48%, 72.72% and 84.48%. Ultrasonographic methods showed accuracy of 45%, 62.5% and 40% for the same parameters; while arteriographic studies achieved 55.5%, 59.25% and 51.85% respectively. Likewise, sensitivity, specificity and predictive value for the aforementioned parameters were analyzed. Marked reliability of CT scan accuracy compared to ultrasonography and arteriography was verified. With regard to tumor extention to neighbouring organs and long distance metastases it was verified that CT scans show diagnostic reliability of 85%. Ultrasonography and arteriography did not show invasion of neighbouring organs. Ultrasonography studies were able to diagnose liver metastasis. Arteriographic studies diagnosed involvement of the pulmonary base at the expense of collateral circulation through the left phrenic artery.
