Mortality in acute pancreatitis

Cases of deaths during acute pancreatitis are analyzed. Out of 400 cases with this disease 32 patients died. The most frequent organ complications included pulmonary and renal lesions. The most frequent cause of death in elderly people was multiorgan failure not related to purulent changes. On the other hand, in young patients the main cause of death were purulent complications. The fatal outcome of the disease was equally frequent in the oedematous form of acute pancreatitis as in the form with advanced haemorrhagic-necrotic lesions.
