Is Burkitt type lymphoma a neoplasm of follicular centre cell origin?

In a study of 280 patients with cytologically diagnosed non-Hodgkin lymphomas, 40 were found to be Burkitt type lymphomas. Based on cytologic and histologic studies, we believe that Burkitt type lymphoma deserves a place in the spectrum of follicular centre cell (FCC) lymphomas. However, unlike other FCC lymphomas the patients of Burkitt's lymphoma were young (median age = 22 yr) and had a high frequency of extranodal tumors (81.8%).
