Concurrent administration of salinomycin (80 mg/kg) in feed with tiamulin in feed at the prophylactic level (30 mg/kg) did not result in any adverse clinical effects. Concurrent administration of salinomycin (80 mg/kg) in feed with therapeutic levels of tiamulin administered either in drinking water (0.006%), in feed (120 mg/kg) or as an injection (15 mg/kg) resulted, within 24 hours, in severe clinical signs consistent with ionophore poisoning. Serum enzyme levels of alanine transaminase, aspartate aminotransferase and creatine phosphokinase were raised in affected pigs. Complete recovery was observed in surviving pigs after withdrawal of either tiamulin or salinomycin.
