Urethral duplications. Apropos of 4 cases

Four cases of urethral duplication casually observed in the past year prompted us to undertake the present study of this rare congenital urethral anomaly. The first case presented an epispadias type of complete duplication of the urethra with the supernumerary meatus located on the glans penis next to the orthotopic meatus and a certain degree of malrotation of the penis. The other 2 cases presented accessory urethral canals; one was an epispadiac terminating on the dorsal aspect of the penis and the other was hypospadiac which was casually found during surgical examination of a balanic hypospadias. Finally, the last case presented a bifid urethra with an accessory preanal branch. The surgical management was based on the particular anomalous presentation of each case: detorsion of the penis for the first case; urethrectomy for cases 2 and four; and meatotomy combined with a Mathieu urethroplasty.
