Nutrition services in health maintenance organizations and alternative health care delivery systems: technical support paper

A technical review provides support of the position statement of the American Dietetic Association that health maintenance organizations (HMO's) and similar health care delivery systems provide nutrition services as an essential component of preventive and therapeutic health care, and that these services should be provided by qualified nutrition professionals. Specific attention is given to a review of the characteristics health care systems, the role and importance of nutrition in comprehensive health care, the cost benefits derived from nutrition services, and the scope of various nutrition services.(wz)
