A new method of vital staining of the conduction system (Iodine gas method) during open heart surgery was applied to six clinical cases. Right bundle branch was identified by staining in all cases and no electro-physiological disturbances were found on ECG. Side effect of iodine gas for systemic metabolism was checked on thyroid function (T4, T3, TBG, PBI) and liver function (GOT, GPT, LDH). No abnormal changes were found in those parameters. Visualization by this method is helpful for prevention of surgical conduction disturbances.
