23 Sudanese patients with renal carcinoma were studied in the period 1975 to 1984. The peak age was the 6th and 7th decades and six patients were under 30 years. Male to female ratio was 1.3:1. Only 1 (4.3%) patient presented with the triad of haematuria, loin pain and loin mass. the commonest symptom was loin pain (56.5%). Other presentations included anaemia (26.1%), pyrexia (17.4%), distant metastases (17.4%), dysuria (13.0%), hypertension (13.0%) and polycythaemia (4.3%). The diagnosis was based on urography (all) and selective renal angiography (12 patients). Six patients had ultrasonography. All cases were histologically confirmed. Adenocarcinoma was the commonest tumour (87.0%). Renal vein invasion was not of significance in prognosis.
