Resting sites of Culex (C.) quinquefasciatus Say, 1823 (Diptera: Culicidae)

Results of experimental study of the posthematophagic resting places used by Culex (C.) quinquefasciatus Say, 1823, performed at Machurrucutu Town, from June to December 1983, are presented. Occurrence of C. quinquefasciatus within the two places studied, the intradomiciliary (houses) and extradomiciliary (open basements) was evident, with man-hour density average of 32,5 and 206,3 mosquitoes in houses and basements, respectively. In the locality studied was proved that C. quinquefasciatus is partially exophagic during resting. It was demonstrated that basements are a good resting place for such mosquito, since females with different physiological conditions (without being fed, recently fed, lately fed, semigravids and gravids) besides males, were found in all the places. It was found that apparently relative humidity was the restricting factor for C. quinquefasciatus occurrence in the resting places studied, perhaps associated with anthropic factors in the houses. Nonlinear correlation was found between macro- and microclimatic factors analyzed and vector presence.
