Seven Welsh Mountain mares aged 5-11 yr were used in 1967-69; data relate to the results of 40 infusions of 250 ml normal saline at body temp., given during different reproductive phases. In anoestrous, 6 of 17 infusions induced oestrus without ovulation; although a small degree of follicular growth was noted, the mares relapsed into anoestrus and follicular atresia occurred.
