A study of 31 American and German strains of V. fetus (types I, II and VII) and 7 of V. bubulus (types III & IV) showed that positive, crossed agglutination and fluorescent antibody tests were obtained only if the antiserum was prepared from a mixture of representative types. The use of such polyvalent antiserum against either V. fetus or V. bubulus made it easy to distinguish these two species.
