Serotonin (5HT), tryptophan (TP), 5-hydroxy-tryptophan (5HTP) and 5-hydroxy-indolacetic acid (5HIAA) were assessed in the hypothalamus of rats entrained to LD 12:12 cycle for five weeks. The employ of HPLC method associated with spectrofluorime tric estimate allowed a very precise resolution and evalutation of hypothalamic 5HT and related compounds showing for all the substances significant circadian variations during a 24 h period.
