The attenuation effectiveness of earplugs sold in local market

The attenuation effectiveness of earplugs is very important when they are used. In order to compare the imported earplugs and the products of this country, a real-ear attenuation study had been conducted. However, this study had several defects such as using a noncalibrated audiometer and giving the test in a classroom instead of in a test chamber. Therefore, we improved these defects existing in the previous study and conducted a further study with 13 types of earplugs to test the real-ear attenuation of 10 healthy adults. The results agree with the previous study, i.e., the imported earplugs do not always have better noise reduction effects. Since the evaluation of an earplug must test its attenuation effectiveness, as well as its comfortability, a further study about the comfortability of an earplug is required.
